Animal Removal

Some of the animals we specialize in removing are:
– Squirrels: These furry little ones do not often make their nests in chimneys, but they do manage to do so on occasion. Some squirrels have been known to crawl inside a damper and break it, fortunately, they are removable. Typically they will scurry down a chimney when there is a bad storm to take cover. 404 Chimney‘s process is called a ‘Smoktite’ and is designed to recoat the inside of smoke chambers that have either eroded over time or were not built correctly from the beginning. Smoktite is a 3000-degree high heat-rated cerfractory mortar, this product is considered a “foam” because as it dries it expands and fills all gaps and voids throughout the smoke chamber.
A bad smoke chamber is the #1 cause of a house fire in a real masonry fireplace/chimney system.
We have no way of knowing whether or not a masonry smoke chamber meets the correct thickness for lined or unlined so we have to assume that every chimney needs to be properly coated, if not we are leaving our customers at risk of a house fire occurring and/or carbon monoxide poisoning.
What is a smoke chamber?
Typically between the throat damper and flue. The function of the smoke chamber is to take the exhaust gasses from the large firebox and direct them into the relatively small chimney flue. The goal is to gently compress the exhaust gasses without creating a back-draft. The tapered walls, from the firebox to the flue will allow the gasses to draft quickly and completely. If it works well, it accelerates the exhaust gasses up into the chimney and helps to promote a good draft. If not, the result is smoke in the house.
